Mary Scheps Scott was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 2000, receiving a BS in Commerce and Business Administration. She was also the recipient of an Honors Award of Excellence in Business Management in 2000 and was elected into the Phi Sigma Tau Honor Society. She graduated from Tulane Law School in 2003 and received the degree of Juris Doctor. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2003 and was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida in 2004.

She is a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association. She also serves on the 2007-2008 Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association as the Director of Membership and Events.
